WS Montanaro Global Select Fund
The Fund aims to achieve capital growth in excess of the MSCI World SMID Cap Index over any five-year period by investing at least 60% of its assets in the shares of small and medium sized companies (i.e. companies with a market capitalisation below that of the largest constituent of the MSCI World SMID Index) in Developed Markets.
The full investment objective and policy for the Fund is stated in the Fund’s prospectus.
The Fund is domiciled in the UK.
Why invest in Global Small & MidCap?
We believe that every investment portfolio should have some exposure to Small and MidCap because:
- Smaller companies have given higher returns than Large companies over the long run (the so-called ‘SmallCap Effect’) – this is true globally, in the US, in Europe and in the UK. *
- Smaller companies represent a large universe of around 11,000 companies across Developed Markets, offering huge choice including some excellent quality businesses.
- Smaller companies are less profitable for the sell-side and are typically less researched, resulting in an inefficient market which creates alpha opportunities for stock pickers.
- Portfolio diversification – adding Small & MidCap alongside LargeCap in an equity portfolio can help reduce risk and increase returns at the same time.
